In their first appearances in the finals of the Portuguese Golf Federation Cup - BPI 2020, Pedro Lencart and Leonor Medeiros did not miss the opportunity to win in the debut, in a 34th edition that took place at the end of October at Montado Hotel & Golf Resort, in Palmela.
The athlete from the Miramar Golf Club, 20 years old, defeated the Azorean Ricardo Garcia, from the Ilha Terceira Golf Club, by 4/3, while the representative of Quinta do Peru imposed herself before Ana da Costa Rodrigues, of Miramar, by 2/1. For Pedro Lencart (Miramar), the first Cup of his career joins his third Championship won earlier that month at the Porto Golf Club, for a double in 2020 in the two ‘majors’ of the Portuguese amateur calendar. Like Pedro Lencart in the men's event, Leonor Medeiros won in the Federation Cup - BPI the first time she reached the final, beating Ana da Costa Rodrigues (Miramar), on the 35th hole. In the 36-hole final, Leonor completed the 18 morning holes 4 up, and by the end of the first 9 holes in the afternoon she was 5 up. But “Aninhas,” under-16 national vice-champion, only 15 years old, made a big recovery and ended up extending the match until the penultimate regulation hole.
It is an old story, which seems to return now (again) in force. We were in the 90s, when Greg Norman pushed the idea of an innovative world circuit, reserved only for the best among the best.
